Social Media Fellow – ReliefWeb

Ghana Health and Education Initiative (GHEI) is recruiting for a part-time Social Media Fellow to join our remote Global Support Team of volunteers who support our in-country staff based in Humjibre, Ghana. The role requires creativity, analytical thinking and strategizing skills, a willingness to give, learn and leave an impact at a high-impact, grassroots, international development organization. Duration & Start Date: 12 months (June 1, 2020-May 31, 2021). Time commitment estimated at 15 hours per week.

Location: The Fellow will work remotely with the opportunity to visit GHEI’s field operations in Humjibre, Ghana at a later stage of the fellowship.

Job Summary: The Social Media Fellow position entails creating and maintain a strong online presence for our organization through our various media channels. This requires using creativity to implement and analyze our digital marketing strategies through social media accounts, ensuring we keep existing target audiences engaged while attracting new interest. The use of technology to communicate through online channels will be essential in order to help increase web traffic and engagement metrics aligned with broader GHEI marketing strategies.

Reports To: This position reports to GHEI’s Executive Director who will oversee professional development progress and accomplishment of deliverables. You will work closely with GHEI’s Communications Officer who is based in Humjibre.

Responsibilities:

Social Media Management

· Lead GHEI’s social media management, develop and execute social media campaigns and initiatives

· Manage GHEI’s social media accounts, including: Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube

· Develop an optimal posting schedule based on web traffic and customer engagement metrics

· Oversee social media accounts’ layout

· Ensure timely responses to queries and comments

· Analyze social media engagements/performance and regularly report on it (through reports, initiative updates, etc.)

Target Audience Engagement Growth

· Understand business needs and growth plans and act/prioritize accordingly

· Identify growth opportunities using social media audience preferences, technologies and platforms ensuring maximum effectiveness

· Analyze content, structure and user behavior to optimize the user experience and drive conversion

· Build knowledge base requirements to integrate social media into business strategies

· Suggest new ways of increasing visibility and attracting prospective donors

Publishing & Promotion of Content

· Publish all social media content and optimize it for search engines

· Create specific landing pages for social media campaigns or stories

· Promote our work digitally through multiple advertising means

Intercultural Team Work

· Collaborate with different stakeholders and staff in Ghana and globally**

Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience; or in final-year of undergraduate program. Career-changers and graduate students also encouraged to apply!

· Professional level English writing and speaking ability

· Interest in nonprofit publicity and marketing

· Experience with digital content creation and social media marketing

· An understanding of the use of social media to organize people around a cause

· Passionate about empowering others and curious about development work in Africa

Competencies

· History of developing social marketing campaigns from start to finish, including data analysis and reporting

· Hands-on experience with social media management planning and leading strategies/initiatives

· Experience in identifying, tracking, interpreting and optimizing relevant online content, traffic and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

· Experience in driving audience engagement and lead generation.

· Excellent knowledge of Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram and other social media platforms and analytics. Good knowledge of social media management, marketing and tracking tools (Google Analytics, Hootsuite, etc.)

· Working knowledge of paid social media advertising, online marketing strategies and channels

· Interest in grasping future trends in digital technologies and acting proactively

· Familiarity with doing audience and buyer persona research

· Ability to work independently and as part of a multicultural team with stakeholders in Ghana and globally

· Creativity and willingness to take initiative

· Resilience, patience, and flexibility around performing a wide variety of tasks as they arise

· Commitment to building local capacity and working within established local systems, structures, and cultural norms

· Commitment to the highest professional standards, ethics, and values

Desirable Qualifications

· Experience in Salesforce, HubSpot a plus!

· Willingness to share your story of participation in the fellowship over social media

Compensation – Please read carefully!

This is an unpaid fellowship but can be used for academic credit. If the Fellow travels to Ghana, the Fellow will receive: free housing on-site (for up to 1 month) and reimbursement initial transport from Accra to Humjibre (and back).

Currently, GHEI puts nearly all of our funds into supporting our mission of providing necessary health and education programs for villages in Ghana. Unfortunately, we cannot cover the cost of international travel, visas, and health insurance. Upon completion of the contract, GHEI is prepared to assist with letters of recommendation and helping with job placement, using our considerable network of NGOs both in the United States and in Africa.
